End of an era: online satire will never be the same again

by Simon on February 1, 2008

If you’re interested in the subject of satirical online writing, I’d like to point you in the direction of my favourite site, which unfortunately appears to be going out of business.

I’ve been reading the CrazyAppleRumorsSite every day for years -I think it must be at least six years so I must have got on board pretty near to the beginning. No other web site has even come close to holding my interest so consistently.

Of course, it helps if you are vaguely interested in Apple computers and stuff. (But don’t expect to learn anything useful).

It seems like today could be the very last day of CARS which for me is a sad day indeed. A few other sites have decided to link to their favourite CARS episode to mark its passing, so I thought I would do the same.

For services to online drama, I nominate the five episodes of 5. You’ll need to start at the prologue and work through acts one to three, then the epilogue.

It’s got everything in here: Tentaculous, Sexbots, Phil Schiller… (If all this leaves you baffled, don’t worry. I’ve been reading the site for years and I don’t understand much of this either.)

5 – Prologue

ACT 1: iSight… a murder.

Act II: Schiller… UNLEASHED!

Act III: A Daring Rescue!

5 – Epilogue

(This nomination was so totally NOT picked at random from just clicking on the archives. OK, maybe it was, but I like everything John Moltz has ever written on the site, so I guess that’s OK. I really wanted to nominate the series of posts where the team go off for two weeks to battle Tentaculous, the giant Octopus being that lives at the centre of our galaxy. But I couldn’t find it in the search.)

Oh, and if you really want to find out what the fuss has been all about, why not start at the very beginning.
